Android 14 will support a satellite network!
Only a week before, T-Mobile and SpaceX had announced a collaboration to connect smartphones directly to the satellite network. It is said that this collaboration will use Starlink's Bhitu spectrum.
Meanwhile, Google's Senior Vice President of Platforms and Ecosystems Department Hiroshi Lakhimer mentioned that they are working to provide satellite communication on Android.
However, he did not say anything about which software update this service will be available.
T-Mobile and SpaceX have said that they will start the beta version of the satellite network at the end of 2023. That time is also the time when the Android 14 update will be released.
Because of this, the stakeholders have estimated that the satellite network will be available in the update of Android 14.
It is said that it will be made available to US users in the initial phase and will be made available to users around the world later.
The speed of this network is said to be two Mbps to four Mbps. However, it is enough to send a message only.
With the help of satellite, users can easily send messages.
The company said that mobile can be used from satellites in places where there is no mobile network, in rural areas and in any emergency.
It is also said that this network will be prepared for voice calls in the future.
