 Is olive oil really healthy?

Among the oils available in the market, many people say that olive oil is the best. This oil, which is produced in most Mediterranean countries, is not produced in Nepal.

Olive oil is established as a healthy oil among consumers in Europe and North America. There are many who like it in Nepal too. Is olive oil really different from mustard or other oils found in Nepal?

Nutritionist Uma Koirala says, 'Mustard oil found in Nepal and olive oil contain the same micronutrients. Omega three and six fatty acids found in olive oil, antioxidants, vitamin E and D are also present in mustard oil.

According to Koirala, olive oil is similar to mustard oil found in Nepal. People like what they don't have. Olive oil is also the same," she says, "In Nepal, there is a tendency to consider expensive things that are not available in their country to be good."

She says that all the virgin olive oil and extra virgin olive oil available in the market are not pure. Only three liters of oil is extracted from 40-50 kg of olives. Similarly, it is a fruit that grows only in a special season, it does not grow every twelve months,' she says, 'so it is not pure if it says virgin or pear on the packaging.'

But Senior Food Research Officer Bimal Kumar Dahal claims that the olive oil available in the market is pure according to the standards. He says that the quality of olive oil is good because most of it is packed from outside.

In countries where olive oil is produced, mustard oil is used in almost any food. It is used as a massage when it hurts, and it is also used in cosmetic products. Nutritionist Koirala says that even though it is used in cosmetic products, people consider it good.

Cosmetic products are produced in countries where olive oil is produced. That is why olive oil is used. Mustard oil is also used in many Ayurvedic medicines in Nepal. Because Ayurvedic medicines are produced in our country,” she says.

Therefore, olive oil is everything, it does not mean that it is indispensable for staying healthy. Olive oil should be used within 15 months of packaging. If it is stored for a long time, its properties are likely to be destroyed.

Like mustard oil, olive also helps to reduce the risk of cancer, reduce the problem of rheumatism and joint pain, reduce bad cholesterol and increase good cholesterol. Nutritionist Koirala says that it also helps in reducing the problems related to heart disease, brain, intestine, liver and kidney.

Olive oil is made with the help of a machine. There are three food grades of olive oil, ordinary, fine and extra olive oil. Which is made by mixing two chemicals in pure olive oil. In which triglycerides (97 to 99 percent) and minor components (one to three percent) are made.
