What happens if you leave carbohydrate foods completely?

Most people believe that carbohydrates cause weight gain. That's why they cut carbohydrate foods from their diet. Is this really true?

Some people are saying, "After giving up carbohydrate-rich foods, high blood pressure and chronic diseases such as diabetes can be cured." Are carbohydrates really not necessary for the body? Does consuming carbohydrates lead to weight gain or does it have any negative health effects?

Reducing the amount of carbohydrates is not harmful to health. But it is not advisable to give up carbohydrates completely. Carbohydrate is one of the three macronutrients. Apart from fats and proteins, the body also needs carbohydrates for daily functions. In this case, stopping its intake completely can increase the problem.

Lack of energy

Carbohydrates are the body's most important source of energy. If not enough carbohydrates are consumed, it often leads to feeling tired, weak and lethargic.

Lack of nutrition

There are foods rich in carbohydrates, which contain minerals such as fiber, vitamins, potassium, and magnesium. If carbohydrates are completely avoided, they are missing out on nutrients that are essential for health. In this way, the body may lack nutrients.

Intestinal problems

Fiber-rich carbohydrates, such as whole grains, fruits, and vegetables, are good for gut health. Consuming them eases the process of defecation and reduces the problem of constipation. Lack of fiber can cause digestive problems.

Brain disorders

Carbohydrates are the brain's main source of energy. The brain depends on glucose, the glucose produced from carbohydrates, to perform various cognitive functions. Not consuming enough carbohydrates can cause mental problems including fatigue, lack of attention.

Very hungry

Skipping carbohydrates completely makes you feel hungry immediately after eating. Since carbohydrates regulate blood sugar levels, their deficiency can cause blood sugar levels to drop and cause excessive hunger.

Effects on overall health

Removing important nutrients such as carbohydrates from your diet can have a negative impact on your overall health. There is a risk of various diseases due to disturbance in the balance of nutrients in the body.

How many carbohydrates to the body daily?

Generally, 50 to 60 percent carbohydrates are required for the body. But according to the needs of the body, the amount of carbohydrates in people varies. A person who does physical work such as heavy lifting needs 60 percent of carbohydrates, while a person who does not do physical work, i.e. sits in a chair all day, needs only 40 percent of carbohydrates.

Main source of carbohydrates

Carbohydrates are of two types simple and complex. Complex carbohydrates are especially found in grains and fruits such as milk, dairy products, fruits, vegetables, barley, wheat, corn, millet, sugar, potatoes, rice, sugarcane, beetroot, dates and bananas.

Carbohydrates are also found in cold drinks, sugar, chocolate, but these foods increase blood sugar rapidly. Therefore, it is advisable for diabetic patients not to consume such carbohydrate foods.

In general, carbohydrates are essential elements for the body and should be consumed in a balanced amount rather than removing them from the diet.
