How are the dead bodies identified in the plane crash?

Forensic Department of Terti Teaching Hospital in Maharajganj. On other days, the students studying in medical education were going back and forth. The atmosphere here was different on Wednesday.

The bodies of the 18 deceased who died in the Sourya Airlines plane crash were taken to the forensic department of the hospital for post-mortem.

Relatives gathered outside in the courtyard, all of them full of tears. Some are lying on the ground. Some are moaning and beating their chests. Relatives were trying to support each other. He was interested to see if there would be any information.

The police micked from inside, only two relatives of the deceased should come inside.

Relatives gathered outside hurriedly tried to get inside. The police guarding the gate asked only the relatives of the deceased to go inside as there was a large crowd inside.

Relatives expressed anger, "Our relative is dying, you are worried about the crowd."

After that, the police requested the relative to stay in bedroom number 2 of the building. One or two people filled the hall. On other days, the room where forensic students study, became sad on Wednesday.

Some of the police asked the relatives and started recording the names of the deceased. After that, it became a difficult situation to handle.

Head of Forensic Department Dr. Gopal Choudhary came forward and consoled, "What should not have happened, happened." Heartfelt tributes to all the deceased. If you help, it will be easy to identify the body soon.'

Even though the name of the dead person is known, the relatives were informed that some post mortem procedures have to be done to identify which person's body is which.

He said that the post-mortem process should be carried out according to international standards, and since it is difficult to identify the dead bodies of the plane crash victims, it is necessary to adopt different procedures. Dr. Chowdhury said to the relatives present, 'First of all, please tell the doctor and the police who are present here about the deceased's identity.'

He continued to add, 'What was the deceased wearing when he left the house this morning? What injuries were there on the body? Please inform the police and doctor friends who are here about everything.'

He informed that the body of the deceased will be given to the relatives only after complete identification.

It takes at least four hours to do a post-mortem on a dead body. We will try to give you the dead bodies soon, not day and night," he said while trying to calm the relatives, "The team of doctors and police are ready."

A relative from the crowd asked, 'How long will you give the body? Can't we give the dead body if we know our matak?'

Calming the relatives Dr. Chowdhury tried to explain the complications in post mortem.

"Usually a normal person's face changes after death. The skin of the body shrinks due to the fire of a person in a plane crash, Dr. Chowdhury said, "Relatives can consider any dead body as their own. Therefore, we can give the dead body after proving it in various scientific ways.

It will take three days for the post-mortem of 18 people. Chaudhary informed. Until then, the body will be kept safe in the refrigerator, he further said, "If you have more information about the deceased, please inform us."

From the same crowd, another relative of the deceased asked, "What is the condition of the deceased?"

Among those brought so far, 17 are men and one is a woman. One of them is a child. He looks like a foreigner.

A policeman involved in the process of collecting the bond informed that some of them were damaged and some parts were completely burned and unrecognizable.

Tomorrow again at 5 o'clock, the head of the forensic department, Dr. Chaudhary requested the relatives of the deceased to sit with the doctor and fill the form. For that, the police requested the relatives to go out of lecture number 2 saying that they will call them in turn.

A few minutes after everyone left, the relatives were called, taking the name of the deceased (Sagar Acharya). And began to note the details. To reveal the identity, they started asking questions like height, weight, whether there are any marks or tattoos on the body, use of steel on the body, what clothes they are wearing...

Relatives replied crying.

A team of doctors and police collected hulia from the relatives of 18 people in this way.

How is the body identified?

Dr. According to Chaudhary, in other cases, post-mortem is done only to find out the cause of death. However, in such a disaster, post-mortem is done only to identify the body.

The cause of death is clear to us. But an autopsy had to be done to identify which body belongs to whom," said Dr. Giving an example, Choudhary said, "If there is a plane crash and many people die at once, it is difficult to identify the dead." Based on the details given by relatives and clinical facts, we identify each other by looking at each other's details.

First of all, the dead body is identified based on the height, weight, marks or tattoos on the body. But if it is not detected in this way, there are three bases to reveal the identity of the deceased - fingerprint dental examination and DNA test. "We will hand over the dead body to the relatives only after the scientific basis of the name of this person is clear," said Dr. Chaudhary said.

Dr. According to Chowdhury, DNA test may also be required as some bodies were burnt excessively. In that case, it is difficult to give the dead body within three days. Many bodies are burned beyond recognition. The body can be given only after identification based on the texture of their teeth, implants (steel) inside the body or fingerprints," he said.

He informed that 25 people including forensic experts from Trivi Teaching Hospital, Patan Hospital and Bhaktapur Hospital have been deployed for the post-mortem.

According to him, there is a big risk that the body may be different when identifying the body based on what the police or relatives have seen. There have been some such incidents before this. The relatives of the deceased took the wrong body when they claimed it as theirs", said Dr. Chaudhary told Online Khabar, "In case of wrong body being found for some reason, it can become a big medical issue."
