How to check if you have breast cancer?

Breast cancer is the main cancer in women. Breast cancer usually occurs in women, but this does not mean that men cannot develop breast cancer. Like women, men are also at risk of breast cancer. However, the risk of breast cancer in men is lower than in women.

Out of 1,000 breast cancer patients, four to five, less than one percent, are seen in men. This cancer that develops from cells in the breast can occur in both men and women.

If this cancer can be detected in time, the risk of death can be reduced. The main cause of breast cancer is heredity. If detected in time, it can be treated.

According to the American Cancer Society, the death rate from breast cancer has been steadily decreasing over the last few years. It is said that with regular checkups and proper treatment, the risk of death from cancer is reduced. Also, with the help of early detection, additional risks from breast cancer can be avoided.

There are different methods to detect breast cancer. Including breast self-examination method, doctor's examination, mammography examination and high resolution video X-ray etc.

Among these various ways to detect breast cancer, breast self-examination can be done at home. Women over the age of 20 can self-examine their breasts every month. If menstruation is happening at the right time, then 'self breast examination' can be done within 5 to 10 days of menstruation. Even if menstruation has stopped, you should check your breasts on one day of every month.

How to self-examine breast cancer

Check standing in front of mirror

Stand in front of the mirror and look at both your breasts. Attention should be paid to the similarity, shape, texture, condition of the skin, skin color and roughness of both breasts, and any lumps in any part of the breast. If it looks like a sore throat, there is a risk of cancer.

Raise both hands and look at the changes in the armpits while standing in front of the mirror. Look in front of the mirror by pressing lightly on the waist with both hands, by doing this you can see clearly even if there are some hidden changes in the breast.

Check in the shower

You can easily find out if you have breast cancer even while taking a shower. For this, wet breasts can be examined with soapy hands. The right breast should be examined with the left hand and the left breast with the right hand in order.

The middle part of the fingers can be used while examining the breast. Since the middle part of the finger is very sensitive, it can be detected if there is any change.

Testing can also be done by squeezing the nipple of the left breast with the right hand and the nipple of the right breast with the left hand. Squeezing the mouth in this way may also cause pus to come out. The discharge of pus from the mouth means the risk of cancer.

Check while lying down

Put a pillow under the armpit and sleep with that hand behind the head and check with the hand. Check each part of the breast sequentially. It should be checked clockwise. Start checking from one place and end there. While examining the breast, the breast area should also be examined in the armpit area.

If you see these symptoms, you should consult a doctor

If there is a change in the skin of the breast, if there is a change in the shape and texture of the breast, if there is fluid coming from the nipple or when it is squeezed, if the nipple falls inward, if there is a change in its shape and location, if there is a lump in the breast or if there is any doubt, you should go to the hospital and seek the advice of a doctor.
